4th Day in London

We moved into a hotel today, close by Kings Cross, and one we had booked right at the start of our UK tour. This was so we would be in a good place to get the tube to Heathrow on sunday night.
anyway we dropped our bags off, and took a tube to St Paul's. Kept on seeing it in the skyline, and kept thinking, we have got to go there. Anyway, it was magnificent. Forgot that Charlie and Diana got married there (thought it was Westminister Abbey). We got audio guides and went for it. No photos allowed inside, but here are some of the outside. The dome is actually two domes, the lower one can be seen on the inside and is covered in painting, not really well coloured, and the outer dome sort of covers the smaller one like an umbrella. Its the big one you can see from the outside. lots of important people are buried here, Lord Nelson for one, and duke of Wellington who bet Napoleon at Waterloo. You can climb up the inner dome and go to the
Whispering Gallery, 250 steps. We did that and I got the vertigo attacks (mainly because you can't see out like the Eye, only straight up or down) so Dave climbed up another 250 steps to be near the top.
After that suddenly saw Millenium Bridge right there over the Thames, so had to walk across that. This was the bridge built for pedestrians for Millenium and it got all wobbly when the wind blew so had to be fixed up. It was windy when we went across but no wobbles!
Straight on the opp. end was the Tate Modern Art Gallery, so we strolled over there, left Dave outside under a tree people watching and I went in. Inside they had just opened an exhibition of Munch - the guy who painted the 'Scream'. So I went to this, and stayed in there for an hour. It was most of his other paintings (I think) not the scream, (remember it had been sold for many millions recently?). Very interesting, his style was similar in his other paintings but very different subjects were painted. Felt very cultured by the end of it. Picked up Dave and we went back to the hotel. Then the great finale of the day ....... we went to the "Lion King"!!!!!! I was all twitchy like a little kid. It is shown in a theatre near Covent Garden so went there first for a looksee, (too many things to buy, no suitcase room!) and a drink before we went in. The show was fantastic, not sure what to expect but the props were brilliant. Hard to explain, very cleverly constructed tho. Got a programme to show people, as you just can't describe it. Great singers, all African descent (prob. Jamacian as well) and wonderful African dancing. Just loved it. Was surprised to hear tho, that it has been going in this theatre since 1999 - thats 13 odd years! Neat way to end the day.
