Sea Day is a lovely day. It means you are at sea, you can
get up any time you want, sit on the balcony and watch the waves go by, read a
book, …… you get the picture!
We had a lazy day, sat up by the pool reading a book,
drinking a latte. (Dave finally found a café on board that makes decentish
coffee). Then the sky opened up and thunderstorm with rain. So it was under
cover on a deck chair, reading a book, drinking a cocktail! (the latte had
finished). Lunch was leisurely, read a book again, then down to the theatre to
watch a Broadway hits matinee put on by the singers that are part of the crew
and sing during shows etc. They are mainly young (20’s) been through major singing
schools and have amazing voices. Because of the weather the theatre was packed
with most of the boat. There were songs from Hair, Peter Pan, Little Shop of
Horrors, a few obscure ones then Les Mis (amazing solo) and Phantom of the
Opera. Such a nice way to spend a rainy afternoon.
I must tell you about the theatre that has the shows. It is
3 tiers, large stage with major lighting and 2 turntables on it. Curtains, and
a set of large stairs that go up from the stage and back down again. You can
bring your drinks in or order from the barmen that go up and down the aisles so
service is great! It seats 1300 people.
After the show it was a sale on down the ‘boulevard’ – where
the shops are- so that needed to be looked at. Then it was time to get changed,
down to poncy restaurant for dinner, (our lovely Marsha from Jamaica man made
me a penquin out of napkins (see photo), then more cocktails listening to the
house band then onto the night show at 9pm. This show was the best so far. It
was called Tenors of Rock. (look them up … they have quite a reputation over
this side of the world).
NEWS ALERT – NEWS ALERT – I HAVE NOW FOUND THE NEXT MISSION
CONCERT PERFORMERS FOR 2017!
They were 4 guys from Britain and I was thinking Sole Mio –
but no – They were dressed up in all black – t-shirts, big boots, leather
jackets – rock types. The first song was a Guns and Roses song, moving into
Bruce Springsteen. Then Phantom of the Opera (and blew it away!), then Eagles
(Desperado – oh my god the harmonising!) then into British rock. Beatles,
Rolling Stones, Kinks, Who, Kiss, Van Halen and Guns and Roses to finish with!
What you need to realise was that the theatre was packed with the audience all
dressed up in bling, long dresses, cocktail dresses, tuxedos (it was chic
night), mainly an older crowd of 60/70plus. They found their inner rock from
way back and they were up rocking it! I was probably the only head banger tho.
Talk about two encores and a standing ovation!
These people on this ship never fail to amaze me.
