Day 5 - all day on the boat.

Today was a good day that was restful and time out to chill and just watch the world go by.

In the evening we had a flamengo dance show after dinner. It was really good to watch and get the audience involved trying to dance!

The river has become narrower with 3 locks on it, so steeper sides. This was a lovely hotel on the river bank.
Old roman railway bridge
After one lock we went under this modern railway bridge. I could actually reach up and touch the bottom of it.
The different landscapes you can see. Vineyards on steep sides to the bottom.
Very rocky hills with railway line along the river - image if it flooded?!
The river got narrower with cliff sides then opened out again.

Another lock/dam

In the afternoon we had cheese and wine and salami/ham tastting with this very funny guy called Pedro who loved our friend Peter!
Us getting the personal talk.
Going through the first dock. Check out the people on the bridge looking at us. How close are we?
Our friend Helen touching the bottom of the bridge as we go past.
All parts of the top deck had to be lowered going through the docks. This is one of our pilots who drove the boat. His cabin got lowered as well!

The river got very shallow with clearly labeled channels for the boat to go through. Imagine how low it is in Summer.

In the morning after breakfast before we left, Dave and I walked to this pedestrian bridge by our town of Regua where we had stayed the night. Above you can see 3 bridges across the river, including this one. We walked for 20 mins along the river pathway, and then up this extremely steep hill to get to the start of the bridge. I was so proud of myself that I had done it, admittedly with Dave pusing me up the hill!

Lots of camper vans parked up for the night
