Piza – we travelled through the mountains which was
interesting. Almost like being at home, except we don’t have 5 lane each way
highways, lots of tunnels going through our mountains! Went past the place
Ferrari have a test track for their cars (yes – in the mountains).
Then arrive in Piza. Buses can’t go near the square it is,
so you have to get off and go on the choo-choo train (literally!).
Then it was past lots of stalls (genuine fake gucchi, prada,
rollex) and you enter this large green square. I was told there wasn’t much
there, which actually isn’t quite true – however we did the whole thing,
including shopping the stalls, in an hour! That included waiting 10 mins for
toilets ( a bit of toilet queue rage happening amongst a few queue jumpers –
woman yelling at each other!), looking
at this baptism dome/chapel and the church, and then the tower.
The square holds this baptism travel, church, tower, and
hospital along the side. Quite a lot of grass (they call it the ‘field of
“ as you can get born (hospital),
baptised, married, die (hospital) all in the same area!
The tower was taller than I thought, had recently been
strengthened so it doesn’t fall over. It was built on softish ground (something
the designers hadn’t allowed for). You can pay $20 to walk to the top but app.
not much to look at down.
