Berlin 2

Just an update. On our walking tour of Berlin we met this other couple - he works at Lindesfarne and she teaches at Mahora!!! small world - they knew annie. So we end up having dinner with them that night, and then again the next night! a lovely couple who were at the end of their tour in Europe so were wonderful at giving ideas of how to use the Eurorail, hotels and sights to see etc. Really enhanced our visit to Berlin. the second day in Berlin we went on a hopon, hop off bus which stopped at places we never got to, or wanted to go back to in Berlin. One of those places was the Jewish Memorial, which is an amazing monument of blocks of granite in lines of differing heights that you walk through on ground that goes up and down and slants! strange i know but the idea was to end up disorientated like the poor Jewish people on the cattle cars, or even after the war. The artist did a good job too if that was his intention! you then go inside and walk through the history and insights of Jewish people through the wall. Very, very moving and heartbreaking.
After that we spent a few hours at the Pergamon Museum (Daves idea) to find the srtifacts that the Germans had taken from the site in Turkey and wont give back! can see why - amazing tall Roman gates to the city and statues.
this is inside the museum! 3 stories high!
this was the gates to Babylon (nothing to do with turkey but impressive anyway!
