Cologne and Medieval Castle

Our first real day on the river Rhine. this cruising lark is kinda cool and definitely lazy! spent all morning in lounge area (cold outside) enjoying the changine scenery. boat goes faster than i thought. we stopped in Cologne and docked. then we had an escorted tour around the old town Cologne ending up at the Catherderal. How maginificent! it got started about 1000AD and got added onto, however just gorgeous! Cologne itself seemed a lovely city - it has the biggest university there in Germany so lots of students around - even a few neo-nazis all studded and black! theres this really neat way they do escorted (guided tours) you each get a walkie talkie thing with a headset and it picks up the channel of the guide who talks into a microphone and you hear his commentary over your headset - and it works up to about 50metres away! plus the oldies (and me) and turn up the volume! clever eh! (all class tours should have one!) Here are some photos of cologne and Cathedral (note the ones about the cathedral with a homeless person asleep in front!)
