At the Castle
First day in Edinburgh, and we start with the Hop on/off bus, up to the Castle.
This is up on top of a hill overlooking the city, and much bigger than I thought.
Very interesting, as it started as a fort set up by King ..... David! My man was very excited about this. Even had a David's tower!
We spent quite a bit of time here, lots of tourists (lined up for 40 mins just to get tickets into the place), but it was a sunny day and nice just to look around.
At 1pm they let off a huge army gun over the city (signal for the time? not sure) so we were there for that.
the thing that I was interested in was you walked through the area where they are setting up for the Military Tatoo in August, which would have been worth looking at.
the area they march in, is so tiny! with grandstands all around. the seats in the grandstand are also tiny (wouldn't hold Dave's butt) worse thant McLean Park! the worse bit was the ground was actually sloping down! not sure if this is diff. on the day, because the ground is just dirt at the moment, but I am sure when I,ve seen the Tatoo on TV it is on an even surface. Check the picture out and you will see what I mean.
