Day 9 = leaving for Porto

We are finally on the big trip back to Porto, through locks again and lovely green vines and scenery. Have a sense of sadness as that means we are going to be getting back in the real world soon. Still lovely warm (22c) day and enjoying being on top of the boat with a cocktail in hand enjoying the view.

We have arrived back in Porto and rather blasted with the busy ness of the place compared to what we have seen over the last few days. Hardly any people or cars, now lots of both!
Tonight is early dinner and off to the cathedral for a 'classical concert', and yes I did get Dave to go without too much moaning and groaning because the other guys were going. It was a short 5 min walk from the boat. Below is the view from the top of the cathedral steps.
There was a group of 4 - 2 violins and a cello and a double bass.
As you can see the setting insde was magnificent, lots of gold and scultures etc

Not realising opera was included in the concert. This was a soprano who was very good, not too sure of the acoustics of the place tho. Just closed my eyes and took in the sounds.
Then it was the baritones turn, he was very dramatic with his body language (remember they are singing in Italian!)
At the end they sang songs from Westside Story and Phantom of the Opera. Even Dave was suitably impressed. By the end the sun was setting through the stained glass windows.
This is for those Hawkes Bay types - remembe the apples around Napier and Hastings? This was in the foyer of the boat which had some amazing quirky art work. It is about a metre high.
As we left the concert the sun was setting and lights were coming on over the setting - this was about 9.30pm

Dave was very proud of this photo of the bridge taken from the boat. gorgeous colours.
