Heading for London!

We left Rugby in the afternoon and headed off for London down the M1. I was in a state because we had to take the rental car back to London City airport ( a small airport with a runway built out on the Thames in the middle of London). I was the navigator and this was a challenge to my powers to read a map! Also it was going to be about 3 -4 pm which meant lots of traffic building up. Also we have no sat-nav, due to the fact it was going to cost more to have than the car rental! So I was it. I googled the directions, looked them all up on the map (we have a book of UK maps) and then started the cold sweat about 1 hour out! In fact, it was a breeze as they have made a series of circuit ring roads that go around the city in a circle, mainly 2-3 lanes, so once we got on one it was just follow the arrows! then a slight left to get off and on to the airport (all signs) so actually started to breathe once the car was turned off! How easy was that??!!
Then it was into a cab, who took us to the house of the people we were staying with for 4 nights. They live on the outskirts, in a suburb called Chingford, which was lovely - surrounded by trees and a big forest, which was why they chose to move 'out' and bring up 2 kids there. The couple were lovely and extremely hospitable. They had two Oyster cards waiting with money on them (they get you onto trains, tubes and buses) with a map of Underground etc. So we planned our days around the areas we wanted to go to  - and voila! The train station was just down the street from the house, which was handy.
